Vito falcone. Transparencies

Provincial Art Gallery of Salerno, Italy
21 Mar-10 Apr 2026

The exhibition Vito Falcone. Transparencies presents a body of work centred on water as a ludic device and a frozen flow: a vital element shared by a community and the core of a ritual action that is renewed over time. Falcone photographs the parabolic instant of the gesture, the moment of maximum expansion before the water falls back and disperses, holding within the image a collective energy destined to vanish.
The search for the privileged moment, in dialogue with the legacy of Cartier-Bresson, intertwines with a conscious and rigorous use of light, a substance as unstable and immaterial as water itself. Light structures the images, sculpts bodies and transforms the event into vision, evoking the heritage of black-and-white masters such as Jodice, Berengo Gardin and Koudelka.
The exhibition unfolds across a time span of more than twenty-five years, encompassing the transition from analogue to digital photography. Beyond technological differences, the photographs appear removed from time, unfolding as fragments of a single, uninterrupted performance: a collective visual memory in which the ritual gesture is repeated, always the same and always different.
